素材からのデザイン再考・《Grace Tan Materials & Methods》at POLA MUSEUM ANNEX

That is an exhibition I have been looking forward to since last month.

For any modeling design, there is material in its starting point.

There is no possibility of new creation without exploring materials.

For me who always thought like that, this was an exhibit that I can not miss.

Grace Tan is an artist who bases her methods from her experience in fashion design.

She explores the shape of the material from various aspects and sometimes connects it with mathematical thinking, and is doing creative expression by reorganizing those characteristics that she could find in the quest with her own sensibility. This exhibition introduces about 35 creations by her handmade arts pieces born from interaction of materials.

First of all, I thought about it again, the relationship between people and clothes. In "a person who wears clothes" as a visual element, a person is only one of materials called a three-dimensional moving solid base. It is fascinating to think about drawing landscapes with my own body of material.

Secondly, the material in the smell. Even if nothing can be seen in the space, the smell exists. The invisible base varies with time depending on places and is constantly changing. It can not be possible to design scents without considering the existence of such an organic base.
